General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China: Suspension of Log Imports from the United States
On March 4, the General Administration of Customs of China issued a notice stating that quarantine pests, such as bark beetles and longhorn beetles, have recently been detected in imported U.S. logs. To prevent the introduction of harmful organisms and to protect China's agricultural and forestry production as well as ecological security, in accordance with the Biosecurity Law of the People's Republic of China, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing regulations, and the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs), the General Administration of Customs has decided to suspend the import of U.S. logs with immediate effect from the date of this announcement.
